Our organisation promotes professional excellence and sustainable care for New Zealand as a tourist destination. In joining ProGuides you will have a voice – through an organisation with well-established networks and industry relations such as Service IQ, Departement of Conservation - DOC, Tourism Industry Association - TIA and Tourism Export Council.

ProGuides is a member of the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA) which is an affiliate member of the UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and an official partner of UNESCO.

Make sure that you have sufficient evidence ! Sometimes operators have what's necessary but don't have their licenses on display. If unsure approach the operator or hand out our information leaflet below.

Here is a list of illegal activiy you can help to stop.

  • Vehicles without a TSL licence displayed: Take a photo and fill in the  Land Transport's complaint form.
  • or call Police Roadwatch by dialling *555. Note! A driver of a commercial vehicle MUST also display a P-endorsement (ID card).
  • Vehicles and/or guides without a DOC concession displayed: Contact DOC, Melissa Lohr 03 756 9163 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  (Take notice of the offence, date, time and location-photo is best) Alternatively you can hand out the letter by DOC, Requirements for operators and guides on DOC land and the letter from ProGuides.   • Guides arriving at the airport without a work permit: Contact the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s Labour, Phone 0800 20 90 20

You can also advise police if you are sure of illegal operations.
