Membership Criteria

Full Membership

Shall be open to anybody who fulfills the following:

  • NZ citizen or permanent resident of New Zealand
  • Currently working full or part-time as a tour guide, driver guide, site guide or specialist guide in NZ
  • Work experience in New Zealand of no less than 240 full days, or 15 tours of at least 15 days duration each, conducted over more than one season
  • Current first aid certificate highly recommended
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct

Associate Membership

Shall be open to anybody who fulfills the following:

  • Guides who have ceased to be active for more than two years, but meet the other criteria for Full membership, or
  • Have recently graduated from a training programme for guides and have not yet acquired enough practical experience for full membership, or
  • Are currently undertaking training to be a guide
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct

Members receive:

  • Informative ProGuides NZ newsletters
  • Networking opportunities with tourism operators and experienced guide colleagues
  • Employment opportunities through an optional listing on the association's website and via broadcasts of job opportunities as they arise
  • Membership ID card that identifies Full Members of ProGuides New Zealand
  • A voice in quality, training, professional development and general tourism issues through ProGuides to government and industry bodies
  • Opportunity to link your individual web page to the ProGuides NZ website
  • Meetings, workshops and social functions

 Code of Conduct

Corporate Membership

Available for tour operators, attractions, retailers, hotels, restaurants, venues, transport, and other companies. By being a corporate member of ProGuides NZ, you can market your businesses through a variety of direct benefits. Corporate members are also part of ProGuides NZ's growing social network.

Corporate members receive:

  • Listing on the ProGuides NZ's website with a direct link to your website
  • Monthly ProGuides e-newsletter
  • Opportunity to find guides for tours
  • Opportunity to promote your business or new products, prices and events in the ProGuides NZ e-newsletter, at networking events and through direct emails to all guides members
  • Certificate from ProGuides NZ demonstrating your commitment to Excellence in Guiding
  • Invitations to networking opportunities with professional tour guides and other members at our annual conference, social events, famils, etc.
  • Opportunity to sponsor and/or host our conference and/or a famil at your site/venue
  • The goodwill and support of ProGuides NZ's members

Corporate members shall nominate one representative who exercises the rights of the corporation on its behalf.
